“The Right Choice
for Children”

About Us
Our Beautiful Building.... The Conway School
The building known to many locally as the Conway School, built in 1890 as a middle class all girls boarding school, with its boarding house in the building which Prezzo restaurant previously resided, it then went on to become the prestigious Conway school which was a private fee paying school for many years, after its closure, it then became the temporary home of The Pioneers Academy, whilst they were having their new school built across town. The school then became empty for a few years and fell into disrepair, until we had the exciting chance to take it over and renovate it to open it as the Little Lions Nursery. It is a beautiful building with big airy purpose built classrooms, a great outdoor space and no stairs.
Our story so far.....
We opened Little Lions Nursery in May 2016 when the owner was looking for a career change after working for 15 years in Children’s Services with the Local Authority. We opened in a different building but rapidly grew out of it. when the chance to moved to Conway school came up we jumped at the opportunity to move to such a special building. It was in a very poor state of repair, so while running the nursery in the smaller property, we renovated Conway school, it was a Mammouth task, we managed to renovate most of the building ready to open for September 2017.
2024 Eight years in business and the future looks bright....
September 2024 is a new stage in little lions life…

Room 4 is our Pre-School room. Pre-School means the year before your child will go to reception in primary school.
Pre-School children are prepared for their next steps of moving on to school, we concentrate on getting the children “school ready” such as independence of taking their coat on and off, going to the toilet, being confident around children and adults, separating from parents, eating lunch and following routines. We also support in name writing, pencil grip, English speaking, shapes, numbers.
Our Philosophy
“It takes a village to raise a child” african proverb
What do we mean by this?
We mean that children start nursery with different experiences from others, in their play and learning, at nursery we support children to experience the Awe and Wonder of the world in which they live, through the seven areas of learning, to help them thrive and be able to achieve future successes.
How do we do this?
The nursery is part of that “village” or community that helps the child grow, through experiences, a content community feel for both children and their families, feeling welcome, getting involved, feeling valued, sharing new experiences, an inclusive environment to all, with shared values and a focus for all children’s future success. Just a few examples below of how this happens here:
- Giving children new experiences.
- Working closely with other professional for best outcomes for children with additional needs.
- Daily Routines that prepare them for going to school.
- Creating a community feel within the nursery.
- Holding family fun days.
Getting children involved in charity fundraising. - Learning and getting involved in local events.
- Creating good partnerships.
Parent meetings with key persons twice yearly to discuss your child’s progress. - Police and community visitors to nursery.
- Christmas magic shows.
- Weekly forest school sessions.
- Weekly sports coaching.

Children’s well-being
We use a variety of means to do this. We consider children’s individual learning styles. We offer extensive curricular and extra-curricular activities. We harness children’s interests and curiosity both indoors and outdoors. We invite visitors from outside the school to share their experiences and skills with the children and we take pupils on visits to the wider world. Here, at Little Lions Nursery our staff teamwork alongside parents to give our pupils every opportunity to make the most of themselves and to enable them to do a little bit better than anyone thought possible – to reach for the stars!
We have bespoke classrooms for all of our Early Years children that encourage free flow play. We believe that the parent is the first, the teacher the second and finally the third is the environment. We work hard to make sure the environment is stimulating and rich as this provides optimum learning opportunities.
All children learn best from hands-on experiences. We teach the fundamental skills of reading, writing and maths through daily play. We also encourage independence right from the start.
We believe that the Early Years Foundation Stage is fundamental in instilling positive dispositions towards learning. In Nursery, children play and explore, make choices and learn to have a go and persevere, are creative and solve problems, form good relationships and are safe, secure and happy.
